Dyverse stands behind recent protests and outcry for REAL change in the United States. As a company, and as individuals we are committed to doing our part to contribute to the fight for equality in the country, and world as a whole.
Since our inception in 2008, Dyverse has made diversity a core value. We have always sought to establish a team of diverse individuals, personalities and perspectives, in our effort to create a truly unique company culture, and as a result, a truly unique environment to be creative. In addition to creativity, we were motivated to promote equality by providing opportunities to individuals that traditionally were at a disadvantage in the US.
The name Dyverse comes from an early interest in seeing my generation, Generation Y, becoming part of a new United States that was far beyond past generations where inequality, discrimination, and segregation were commonplace. I grew up in a relatively diverse community in South Florida. I can recall my middle school being roughly one-third White, one-third Hispanic, and one-third Black. It was an experience I am so thankful for. It allowed me to make connections and friends with all races, and become a better, more open-minded person because of it.
I didn’t understand why anyone would be racist. When I initially thought of the name Dyverse when I was in college, I felt that we were moving past inequality and that it was nothing like what it used to be in America. While I do believe a lot of progress has been made, as I became an adult, I realized that this perspective was idealistic and biased. I never walked in the shoes of a Black person, to experience the prejudice, systematic racism, and inequalities they always have, and still to this day experience in America.
I believe the roots of the real problems are deep, and not realistically going to be solved immediately. As a country, we should have done much more sooner to create a more level playing field for those in less fortunate economic and social circumstances. We can’t change the past, so we have to all make a commitment to all do our part NOW. Eventually, there will be a distraction to take our attention away. Still, if we are going to achieve true unity and equality, it will require major changes and investments to be made over several decades.
Our vision for Dyverse is to continually find effective ways to contribute as much as we can to be an equal country. If we genuinely want to be united, there needs to be an equal opportunity for all. Race should not be a factor for economic, psychological, or physical well being. This also goes for gender, age, ethnicity, and sexual orientation.
In addition to the initiatives we have already established in our recruiting, hiring, and training efforts, Dyverse will be implementing new programs to support equality. This will include making donations and volunteering with organizations that are committed to driving positive change, as well as developing programs within the company to help our Black and non-White employees achieve leadership and upper management roles by providing them more resources and training.
I am hopeful to see significant changes implemented by the government and commitments to do more by all corporate organizations, big and small. I am optimistic about that day when we truly are equal and united as a nation.
