Last year saw the rise of racial and social justice efforts across the globe. As a company focused on diversity, we’ve made it a priority to keep these issues top of mind as the media coverage dies down and protests are no longer in the news, because we know that the only way to make our world safer for marginalized communities is to consistently put in the work. We’ve dedicated ourselves to supporting our community as much as possible, including donations to local organizations like Parramore Kidz Zone and One Orlando Alliance. Now, for National Nonprofit Day, we wanted to discuss one of the ways that our team members have been able to support the causes that they believe in— our company-wide donation match program.

AOne of the core values of Dyverse is continuous improvement, which is why we’ve even named our analytics software Kyzen, after the Japanese philosophy kaizen that means “change for the better.” While this philosophy applies traditionally to business practices, at Dyverse, it goes beyond that. During the peak of the Black Lives Matter protests last year, one of our team members came up with an idea for a way to improve our company and community at the same time; thus, our donation match program was created.

“I feel that everyone at that point wanted to help with anything they could, and by Dyverse matching a team member’s donation, the impact from a single donation went further.” — John Todero, CEO and founder of Dyverse

To make the process as simple as possible, team members fill out a Google Form with information about their nonprofit organization of choice and a receipt of their donation, and the company will match their charitable donations up to $500. We’ve found that the program not only encourages more donations, but it also fosters an environment where we can share information and learn about organizations that we may not be aware of.

Some of the organizations to which we’ve matched donations in the past include:

  • UNCF, a philanthropic organization that funds scholarships for Black students and general scholarship funds for 37 private Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
  • NAACP, a civil rights organization created “to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate race-based discrimination.”
  • The National Black Justice Coalition, a civil rights organization serving primarily lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Black people.
  • The Black Lives Matter Global Network, an organization with multiple chapters based in various cities dedicated to organizing and continuing activist activities in the Black Lives Matter movement.

Like we mentioned before, it’s important to keep the momentum going, even after the media coverage dies down. Going forward, we plan to work even harder to promote the donation match program to our team internally; a year from now, we’ll follow up and see how far we’ve come and how many new organizations we’ve been fortunate enough to learn about and match donations to. As always, we rely on our team and our community to hold us accountable and ensure that we do our part in advancing the fight for racial and social equity.
