May is mental health awareness month, which provides a great opportunity to refocus our priorities on our mental and physical health. When it comes to continuously striving for being productive and growth, sometimes we can find ourselves feeling a little burnt out. With everything we have to take care of including health, work, family, relationships, hobbies, etc, it’s reasonable that we will find ourselves out of balance from time to time.

At Dyverse we are mindful that everyone of our team members has to deal with stress and pressures in both their jobs and personal lives. We do our best to offer help where we can, and we have developed a culture that emphasizes positive thinking, flexibility and wellbeing. Some examples of this include recently increasing PTO for every team member and allowing everyone the opportunity to work remotely from home.

We thought the timing was perfect to document some ideas that we feel make the biggest positive impact on our team members work and personal lives.

5 things that can help sustain positivity, balance and mental health

  • Exercise. The mind/body connection is strong. When your mental health is suffering with stress and anxiety, usually your body will react negatively as well. Vice versa when you are taking care of your body with exercise and a proper diet, your mental health will also very likely improve.
  • Create boundaries. Be mindful of what triggers bad feelings and work to create boundaries that allow you to eliminate the causes. Sometimes that can result in a conversation with someone in your life so that they can respect your boundaries, or changing your daily habits such as limiting your time on social media.
  • Positive affirmations. There are all types of great positive affirmation card sets, and also tons of great videos on Youtube that can be a beneficial addition to your daily routine. With these resources, at any moment you can access the power of positive thinking that can change your whole perspective, and thus change your life for the better. At Dyverse we are working on creating a library of positive quotes that resonate with us that can be accessed and continually reinforced throughout our culture.
  • Take breaks.Make sure to schedule time each day to do something that gets you to move around and get you out of your head. Some examples Dyverse employees provided that you can do to take your mind off of work or something else that is stressful includes gardening, dog walks, meditation, stretching and/or breathing exercises. For longer breaks it is great to have hobbies that mix in physical activity or being outdoors such as yoga or golf.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask for help.Speaking to a professional therapist is a great way to get advice on how to get past things that might be troubling you, and work to create habits for better mental health.
